No More Excuses

“And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.  When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me in the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.  Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” John 5:5-8

Jesus is in Jerusalem and he goes to Bethesda pool where there are crowds of sick people who are blind, lame and paralyzed. Jesus had an appointment with one man who was laying there with an infirmity for 38 long years. When Jesus saw him, he posed a question to him, “Wilt thou be made whole?” The man does not give him a yes or no answer, but he comes up with an excuse why he was not whole. He had no one to put him into the pool. It was known that an angel would come to this pool and troubled the water and the first person who entered into the water was instantly healed. So he just laid there everyday.

God is asking us today do we want to be made whole. Or do we have excuses just like this man? Or is it easier to blame someone else as to why we are not whole.  Or do we feel that we are not worthy of being made whole? God is not looking to point fingers at anyone as to why we are still blind, lame and paralyzed. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivered him out of them all.” (Psalms 34:17)

Jesus told that man to get up, pick up his bed and walk. So get up and stop wallowing in self-pity and playing the blame game. Do you want to be made whole?
