Break up the fallow ground

..’Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.– Hosea 10:12

Before the farmer would begin sowing seeds into the ground, he first had to plow up the ground to break up all the hard soil that had laid dormant and compacted through the winter.  He has to loosen up the soil by overturning it with his plow to  break up old roots and rocks which would choke out new plants if he did not do this.  Then he begins planting the seeds which are sow into the fertile ground and now able to retain the water and grow new roots.

We  have to do the same thing with our hearts.  We break up the hard ground around our hearts so it maybe soft and tender to receive the Word of God.  We begin to weed out the things of our flesh such as  sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy and we sow in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:19-23)

After repenting of these things in our hearts, then God is able to come in and shower us with his love.  When we sow unto righteousness, we shall reap a harvest of mercy and blessings, not judgment.

  1. It is very humbling to let go of our anger and strife or breaking that hard ground. Sometimes I know God will use that shovel to “open” my eyes when I need it! Humbling and humbly accepting.
