For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds…– 2 Corinthians 10:4
We are in a war, a confrontation with good and evil. The enemy that we are fighting does not fight fair. He will use every piece of artillery that he has in his arsenal to destroy us. The Bible calls him a roaring lion because he walking about seeking to destroy (1 Peter 5:8) and he is also known as a thief because he comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. He wants to steal our peace. He wants to kill our faith. He wants to destroy us physically, mentally, and spiritually. We are no match for this enemy by fighting with our hands or with guns because this is not a fleshly fight. But the weapons that God has equipped us with is so powerful and mighty that it blows up every strong hold, every imagination, and every thought in our mind and hearts that tries to take us over and go against God. You have these weapons in your possession and you must put them on every day. Never leave home without it, for it is the armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18):
Your loins girt about with truth — this girdle held the armor in place and it gave freedom for movement. Keep our minds free from any falsehoods or deceit.
The breastplate of righteousness — the breastplate covers the front and back of the body from the neck to the thigh which was to guard against any spears, arrows and swords entering the heart and lungs. We hold onto righteousness, integrity, purity, and love.
Your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace — Shoes cover the feet and helped with balance when engaging the enemy. We should walk in peace and our conversation be of peace.
The shield of faith –– The shield was held on the arm and was movable in protecting the head and various parts of the body. We use the shield of faith to block and put out any fiery darts that might be fired against us. These fiery darts try to strip us of our confidence and belief in God.
The helmet of salvation — The helmet protected the head. We have the assurance of our salvation and know that we are pardoned of our sins.
The sword of the Spirit, the word of God — The sword was a very important piece of armor and that its two-edges where sharp on both sides. We are to continually read and stand upon God’s word.
Prayer and supplication in the Spirit –– We are to pray all the time for ourselves and for others. Praying in the Spirit.
