But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: — 1 Peter 2:9
God has chosen us to exemplify who he is. We are of a kingly family. We are of a royal priesthood, meaning we are his priests and he has given us direct access to him. We are a peculiar people, because we are no longer just ordinary, but we are special to God. What is our purpose? Our purpose is to give God the highest praise because he had brought us out of darkness (out of the pit, out of sin and shame) and into his Wonderful light. So there should be a difference in how we conduct ourselves. We are in the world, but we are not of this world and we do not act like the world. How does the world conduct themselves? They give in to the desires of the flesh (if it feels good, do it), of the eyes (the grass looks greener on the other side), and are prideful (look at me I’ve got it going on, I got the car, house, the clothes). We are a light to the world, and we cannot be like them. Remember who you are. You are royalty.
